What Personal Information Does GYIC Collect and How Do We Use Your Information?

GYIC collects your name and email address when you subscribe to GYIC’s email list or sign up to receive a free gift from GYIC (e.g., “What Really Matters to College Admissions Officers”). GYIC will use your name and email address to send you periodic educational emails and occasional business announcements and updates.

When you order a product or program on this site, GYIC collects your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number to process your transaction. Your credit card information and/or banking account information is held by GYIC’s payment processor, PayPal, and GYIC does not have access to your credit card or bank account numbers. GYIC may use your phone number and/or email address to contact you about your order.

If you sign up for a free 20-minute consultation, we will collect your name, email address, and phone number to contact you about your meeting and to connect with you for your meeting. We may use your name, email address, and phone number to contact you after the consultation with follow-up information related to our meeting.

If you become a client, we will collect your name, email, address, phone number and other information related to things including but not limited to your high school transcripts and standardized testing results. We use your name and email to contact you after we provide your services with follow-up information related to your services.

We use first-party and third-party cookies to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interaction (so we can optimize our website and create a better user experience for you), and for marketing purposes. We may use cookies via Google Analytics. Click here to opt-out of Google Analytics cookies. How Do You Unsubscribe?

If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, GYIC includes the one-step unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email. IT is easy to unsubscribe—you just click on a link. You may also send Dr. Jennifer Bernstein a request to remove you from our email list.

How Does GYIC Protect Your Information?

GYIC uses various security measures to maintain the safety of your personal information, including hosting your name and email using third-party password-protected, secure services. These services keep your information confidential, will not sell or share your information, and will not contact you directly. The third-party services we currently use are: Acuity Scheduling (appointment scheduling), Adobe Sign (document signatures), Airtable (database), AWeber (email newsletter and opt-in offer), Basecamp (client communications and documents), Dropbox (client documents/material), Google services (email, drive for student documents, calendar), GoToMeeting (for online meetings and possible recording of them for quality assurance and training), PayPal (payment processing, which stores your private financial information–credit card numbers and banking account information–as per their agreement with you. GYIC does not have access to your financial information on PayPal), WordPress (the online GYIC program is hosted on WordPress and will store your username and password and any other information you share in setting up your paid access).

GYIC will not trade, share, or sell your information to any other company, except that GYIC does share your information with specific third parties who assist us in taking care of you, as listed above. These third parties all agree to keep your information confidential. GYIC will also release your information as required by law and if necessary to protect GYIC’s legal rights and/or to comply with a judicial proceeding or court order, to prevent threats to others or illegal activities, or to prevent abuse of this website.

Other Legal Information

GYIC does not collect any information from anyone under 13 years of age. This website, products, and services are not directed to people who are under 13 years of age. Please notify us at GYIC if you are a parent whose child has provided us with personally identifying information, and we will delete such information from our files.

European Union / Switzerland Residents Privacy Rights

The European Union enacted the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which gives individuals in the EU/EEA and Switzerland the right to correct, update, review, or delete their personally identifiable data. If you are a European Union resident and would like to make such a request, please contact us at Get Yourself Into College. GYIC is located in the United States and any data you submit will be transferred to the United States. If you are a European Union resident and you are dissatisfied with how we have managed a complaint, you are entitled to contact your local data protection authority.

Our data retention policy is that members of the EU have control over us deleting your data. IN other words, we will keep your data until you tell us to delete it. For tax purposes, we are required to keep the names and other financial and transactional information about anyone who makes a purchase for at least six years after any transaction. We keep client files indefinitely for legal compliance purposes, clients may request a copy of their file.

California Online Privacy Protection Act Compliance

If you are a California Resident, under the “Shine the Light law” (Cal Civ Code Section 1798.83) you can request the disclosure of certain personal information that we have disclosed to theird parties for marketing purposes in the last year, if any.
